Additionally, the opening of Northgate provides connections to and from local and regional bus routes. Daily ridership is projected to reach 41,000-49,000 by 2022. (See map below.) In 2011, VIA worked closely with Metro, Sound Transit and Seattle Department of Transportation staff to vet the costs and benefits of future center design alternatives and ultimately produced a preferred option to move forward. VIA Architecture has held multiple contracts assisting King County Metro, the City of Seattle, and Sound Transit to evaluate options for facility design that provides efficient passenger transfer from bus-to-rail reserve, envision, and enable feasible locations for on-site TOD and the creation of placemaking strategies.

The facility is projected to serve 15,000 passengers per day.

When Northgate Light Rail station opens in 2021, commuters will switch from this facility to light rail as their primary transit to downtown.

King County Transit Centers currently serves 6,00 passengers per day. Northgate is the largest transit center in the King County Metro system (318,000SF), currently serving 14 Metro bus routes and two Sound Transit Express bus routes.
